Are you a beginner adult content creator, or a sex worker looking to refresh your knowledge? Here are some tips to attract and diversify your target audience.

Reminder: I’m giving this advice from the standpoint of what works for me personally. Sadly, there is no one size fits all option, but I’ll do my best to include everything I know. In the loose words of SWCEO, take what works for you, and leave what doesn’t.

Why a Target Audience Is Essential for Adult Content Creators

Anyone who’s selling anything needs to understand their target audience. Firstly, most people on planet Earth will never buy what you’re selling. That’s a simple rule of sales, and it’s why many brands niche down to certain demographics. Niching down who sees your content to potential buyers is the key to sales.

Sex workers as individuals do not have the same “all-in-one” resources as Wal-Mart or Netflix. It’s essential that we save our time by niching down as much as possible. Therefore, identifying who will buy from you saves time and effort.

Who Buys From an Adult Content Creator?

If there was a straightforward answer to this, I’d give it to you. Sadly, I have to tell you that it takes time and research to learn. (I know, I know.) Over time, you’ll see trends for what types of clients are drawn to you, and if you collect notes on your buyers, it’ll be more apparent.

To kickstart these discoveries, ask yourself the following (sex-worker specific, we work differently than other industries) questions about your target audience:

  • What sources are my fans and subscribers using to find me?
  • Do my clients contact me at home or at work?
  • Are they more active in the morning, midday, evening, or late night?
  • In what countries, states, and regions am I most popular?
  • What age groups spend the most money on me?
  • Do your buyers prefer the “get to know you” route, or the “buy and say nothing” route.
  • Which medium of contact do my subs prefer? (Think camming, clips, sexting, phone calls, video calls, etc.)

There are other questions that you can ask yourself about your target audience, and this list is meant to inspire you. Once you go deeper, you get a general understanding of your target audience.

If you’re unsure about the answers, ask! Every client who contacts you, collect notes on them. Take notice if they trend in one direction. Also, poll your audience, keep track of what they engage with, and track link clicks.

Collect Insights: Tips and Resources for the Adult Content Creator

Have you kept up with PornHub Insights or XHamster Year-End Report? Very often, these adult sites will post data collected from their users. It’s an easy way to see what potential subscribers, viewers, and fans love to see. With data to back up these claims, it’s a great way to create relevant adult content that’s more likely to be seen.

Special Note: When you Google “porn insights” or “porn statistics,” you get a plethora of anti-porn propaganda. Be careful about your sources. Usually, the NSFW sites that we work for are the best available sources. If you pay attention, they’ll occasionally post a great piece of data that you can utilize for future adult content.

Only a small pool of resources for sex workers exist. I collect Polls on my Twitter from my fans and other sex workers, and I intend to write a blog post publicizing my data soon.

MelRose Michaels goes deeper into how to collect data from your fans here: Data-Driven Insights.

Is a Rebrand Necessary to Reach Your Target Demographic?

Before you start trying to find the right audience, look at your brand. Are some things working, and other things aren’t? Are you hitting your daily, weekly, and monthly goals? If not, it may be time to rebrand to fit your target audience.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I making enough money to pay my bills, add to my savings, and buy things for myself?
  • Is my audience engaging with the content that I create?
  • Is the traffic making its way to my paid adult sites?
  • Is that same traffic subscribing, either now or later?
  • Do I feel fulfilled with the type of videos and pictures I’m creating?

Identify Your Niche (Camgirl, Video Creation, Phone Sex, NSFW, SFW, etc.)

What type of adult content do you like to create? Think of something that brings you the most joy, the least effort, and what’s easy to repeat (consistency is key).

Target Audience Tips for Camgirls:

  • Stick with a consistent camming schedule
  • Take 30 minutes to 1 hour, and cam at a completely different time than usual.
  • Place relevant keywords in your description and title.
  • Upload relevant content to your cam profile.
    • If you’re a foot girl, upload feet pics. Etc.

Target Audience Tips for the Adult Content Creator:

  • Use your title and description to your full advantage.
    • Include a list of actions, your body type, what you’re wearing, the length of the video, etc.
  • Make your tags as relevant as possible.
  • Utilize all of your available categories and tags.
  • Copy the same keywords when you post it on social media or your website.
  • If you’re in an “oversaturated” niche, you may have to up the volume of your content to fit the needs of the market.
    • 1 foot video won’t get much traction, but 20 feet videos will make a dent.
  • Aim for quality similar to popular or in-demand creators.

Target Audience Tips for Phone Sex Operators:

  • Create audio over video or pictures.
  • Write erotic and descriptive titles
  • Post about what you’re wearing or doing.
  • Talk on social media about what you’re in the mood for.

The Importance of Diversifying Adult Platforms

Sometimes, your lack of sales boils down to being on the wrong adult website. It’s hard to sell vanilla clips on a fetish website, and vice versa. Most platforms do the heavy lifting to bring in the viewers, and it’s up to you to sell on the appropriate sites.

Rather than choosing one solid platform, I suggest three in differing niches. Such as, one subscription site, one clipsite, and one phone sex or camsite.

If you’re on more than three, keep the links on your link page to a minimum. Too many options confuse customers, and you want the buying process to be simple. (i.e., I’m on ManyVids, LoyalFans, FapHouse, Clips4Sale, iWantClips, SextPanther, PornHub, and XHamster. On my website, I only post my link to ManyVids, LoyalFans, and SextPanther.)

How to Attract and Diversify Your Target Audience

The majority of adult content creators make a video, post it, promote it, and wait for it to sell. That’s valid and something that most creators get away with. However, there are other ways to grow your influence, and they might yield better results.

Hang Out Where Your Audience Does (NSFW and SFW spaces)

This is a callback to the earlier question, “What is your target demographic interested in?” The money is in the answer. If you can figure out where your viewers are, you’ll have an easy way to find new followers to convert to buyers.

I’ll use myself as an example.

This year (2023), I got into chastity and cuckolding. It’s fetish content that I genuinely enjoy making, so I wanted to do my research. In doing so, I found hundreds of resources for cucks and mistresses. Here’s the key, not all of them have to do with sex work.

There are sites that sell chastity devices and other sex toys to cucks. Advice forums, BDSM resources, “how-to” articles, fetish-oriented erotica, meme pages, NSFW caption pages; all of these have my target audience. Once I inserted myself in these spaces, I got more cucks hitting my line.

You can do the same for almost any niche. Figure out where they are, and insert yourself in that space.

How to Predict A Viewer’s Niche Interests

Personally, I like trial and error, and I’ll directly ask them too. Your viewers have other interests that aren’t include porn. Think outside of the box. I’m hoping that by exposing you to this way of thinking, you’ll already have ideas swirling in your head.

But, I do not expect you to have any ideas if you don’t know what your niche is. That’s why I suggest figuring out exactly what you like to do before you start.

Special Note: When you put yourself in a certain space, genuine interest is important. This is my personal opinion, but I think you’re more likely to convert when it seems like it’s actually something you enjoy. For example, I won’t touch most sports because I couldn’t care less about them, but lots of creators shine in that area.

How to Use NSFW Keywords for an Adult Content Creator

Did you know that Google tracks our every move? As disconcerting as that is, use it to your advantage. Teaching a full course on SEO is way too complicated for what little time I have, but I’ll give you some basics:

  • Find popular keywords
  • Find niche keywords
  • Plug keywords into your descriptions and titles
  • Create “high quality” content that Google would like*
  • Google puts the pictures and videos from our adult websites (ManyVids, LoyalFans, etc.) on their search engine, and customers do Google adult content creators.
  • Forget about trying to trick the search engine into thinking you’re SFW. The bots are very smart, and it will backfire.

*”High quality” is subjective. Try to write original and relevant descriptions. Go the extra mile, and Google will see that.

Start Big, and Whittle It Down (Sales Funnel)

This is the most popular strategy that I see most adult content creators trying. It works for many, and I have no notes! From what I see, they target popular posts on Twitter or Instagram, and whoever finds them, finds them.

The funnel looks like: Popular posts > new follower > engages with their social media > they subscribe. It’s possible to reconstruct a sales funnel in any way that works for you. It’s a simple content selling strategy for beginner creators. If you lack the time or tools to research every little piece of data, I recommend this.
